ETL (extract, transform, load)

What problems does it solve?

Manufacturing and energy companies rely on multiple IT systems – ERP, MES, SCADA, CRM – each storing data in different formats and locations. Without a standardized approach to collecting and processing this information, analyzing production efficiency, costs, or product quality becomes time-consuming and error-prone. Without efficient data flow, decision-making is based on incomplete reports, leading to operational inefficiencies.

In the renewable energy sector, an additional challenge is integrating data from solar farms, wind farms, energy storage systems, and weather forecasts. Without a unified system, managing energy production and distribution becomes complex and less efficient.

What is it and what are the benefits?

ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) is a data integration technology that extracts information from various sources, standardizes it, and loads it into a centralized database or data warehouse. This enables businesses to generate comprehensive, structured reports and conduct in-depth analyses.

By eliminating data fragmentation, ETL improves data quality, consistency, and accessibility, ensuring that all enterprise management systems operate with up-to-date information.

In OZE, ETL aggregates data from diverse sources such as weather forecasts, IoT sensors, SCADA systems, and energy grids, allowing for better energy production planning and optimized distribution strategies.

How does it work?

The ETL process consists of three key stages:

1️⃣ Extract – Data is retrieved from various systems and databases, including ERP, MES, SCADA, IoT, and CRM. In OZE, this may also include energy farm management systems, smart meters, and meteorological forecasts.

2️⃣ Transform – The extracted data is cleaned, standardized, and formatted, eliminating duplicates and inconsistencies. In renewable energy, this ensures that power generation data is aligned with market conditions, enabling better energy sales optimization.

3️⃣ Load – The processed data is loaded into a central database or data warehouse, where it becomes immediately available for analytics and reporting. As a result, manufacturers and OZE companies gain access to real-time, reliable, and comprehensive insights, enabling strategic, data-driven decision-making.
